Next Gen workers prepare for mental health issues in young people post-lockdown
We’re excited to announce that our free mental health and well-being training sessions, which are being facilitated by Phase Trust in partnership with Love Black Country Next Gen, are now completely fully booked.
The training was announced last week on social media and will focus on equipping youth and children’s workers to understand and offer support to children and young people suffering with mental health and well-being issues, particularly following weeks in lockdown. It was fully booked within hours of the announcement going live. A second date was added and also filled-up a few hours later.
The uptake and interest in this type of training highlights the increase in mental health issues that are expected to emerge in children and young people post-lockdown. Most experts agree that there will be numerous mental health issues facing the next generation following lockdown and children’s and youth workers will need to be equipped to offer them the best support.
Deb Chamberlain, LBC’s Next Gen Champion, is excited by the response to the training.
“It’s so encouraging to see so many children’s and youth workers desiring to up-skill and prepare themselves to better support the next generation in the coming months. We’re so blessed to be partnering with Phase Trust, who have vast experience with working with children and young people in this way.”
This training is especially useful to the many chilren’s and youth workers who are currently on furlough. Training opportunities are encouraged whilst on furlough and will not affect their furlough agreement or payment.

Anger-management training
LBC Next Gen are also offering anger-management training in partnership with Reality Youth Project in June 2020.
The course will equip and licence children’s and youth workers to deliver anger-management training in schools to children aged 9-16.
This course costs £100 and will take place on Monday 15th June, 9:30-2:30pm either at the LBC Chapel in Sedgley or virtually online, depending on government social distancing restrictions.
