COMPASSIONATE CONVERSATIONS, a session from The Black Country Mental Health Forum’s

The Black Country Mental Health Forum, who brought us together last November for the Sanctuary Conference, are taking information on anxiety and mental health out to the boroughs of the Black Country. Compassionate Conversations – Helping The Church Tackle Anxiety is a chance for Christians to explore how we can support people living or suffering with anxiety.

This will be an insightful workshop style session aimed at fostering understanding around the emotional, physical, and spiritual impacts of anxiety.

The event will travel to each of the boroughs to help explore the way we perceive anxiety and provide a space for discussion where churches large and small can explore mental health support for their congregations and wider community.

What topics will be covered

  • What is anxiety and how does it present?
  • How the brain responds to stress
  • How does our faith and anxiety interact?
  • How can the Church be more mental health friendly?
  • Where else can we signpost those who are struggling with anxiety

What will happen? What is the format?

Teaching points, table discussions and feedback, personal reflection tasks

What will we gain from the session?

  • A greater awareness of the signs and symptoms of anxiety
  • To know how to safely and compassionately respond to those who are suffering with anxiety and other mental health conditions
  • Tools to create a more inclusive and understanding environment within our Christian communities for those who suffer anxiety/poor mental health.

What to bring:
