Job Vacancy: Youth & Community Work Apprentice

Youth & Community Work Apprentice – The Brierley Hill Project

An opportunity for an enthusiastic person who is able to primarily engage with a range of young people and children aged 8 -19 years (25 with disability) as well as adult community members. You would be supporting the development of wide varied sessions, which are used as an opportunity to build professional relationship with children, young people and adults from the local community.

 Salary
£3.90ph – £117pw – £6,084 per annum

Working week
Required to be flexible to work in a range of settings primarily within the wider Brierley Hill area. Times are likely to include several evenings per week.  Dates and times TBC

Total hours per week: 30 (This includes your qualification training hours)

Expected duration
12 Months

16th September 2019

Advanced Level Apprenticeship (for those aged 16 – 18yrs only).

What you will do in your working day

  • To engage with young people to develop their skills, knowledge and social interaction by contributing to the provision of positive activities, sessions and programmes.
  • To work within a wider team of staff and volunteers.
  • To be responsible under supervision, for managing workload.
  • To take responsibility for recording and reporting youth work undertaken.

The training you will be getting
You will be working, usually full time, in your job role. The qualification training will likely be done as an evening course (subject to confirmation). You will be required to build a portfolio of evidence using on the job work and training. This will be included as part of your employed time. You will be mentored as part of this role having regularly supervision, which will support you in both the practical and learning elements of your role.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
After completion you will have a Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice so could apply for full-time youth work jobs as well as considering progression onto a degree programme to get your JNC in Youth Work Practice.

Communication skills, Organisation skills, Number skills, Analytical skills

GCSE or equivalent English (Grade A*-C 9-4) Essential
GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade A*-C 9-4) Essential

The Brierley Hill Project is a registered Charity based in Brierley Hill, West Midlands. We aim to support members of the local area in a wide range of ways. We want to expand our growing youth work department and delivery, which this apprenticeship will primarily support.
