Prayer breakfast receives newspaper coverage
Love Wolverhampton’s monthly prayer breakfast in September focused on the theme of homelessness. It attracted an encouraging uptake in the form of both the numbers that attended as well as the types of people who came. Over 30 different churches and an array of organisations working with homeless people in the city were present, as well as MPs Eleanor Smith and Liam Byrne and Wolverhampton councillor Beverley Momenabadi.
The breakfast created such a buzz that it was covered by the Express & Star in an attempt to better represent faith and community groups in the local press. You can read their full article here.
The increasingly collaborative work with homeless people in Wolverhampton has also been receiving national attention of late and will no doubt continue to do so. The shared vision, which spans across multiple agencies who work with homeless people in the city, is a unique one and local authorities in other parts of the country are keeping a watchful eye on the work being done there.
After many years of working faithfully yet separately to tackle the causes and meet the needs of those affected by homelessness, many organisations in the city are now intentionally working together in order to truly “make homelessness history”.
Jeremy Watson, who organises the Love Wolverhampton prayer breakfasts and also manages the Church Shelter, was excited about highlighting the work that God is doing in the city.
“Firstly, it’s about celebrating collaboration and partnerships in the city and, secondly, it’s an opportunity to celebrate everything that’s going on in the city currently with the partnerships and people working together at the sharp end, trying to make homelessness history.”
This collaboration is now being put into definitive action with a new partnership between Good Shepherd Ministries and Enterprise Home Groups, which include the Church Shelter, who will all be operating out of the same building on Waterloo Road, due to open late September.
God is definitely doing something amongst homelessness in Wolverhampton and it has the potential to have a national impact and influence.
